Relationship: The ship with no Captain

I was attending the Asia Plateau program at their Panchgini center yesterday and the session which touched me (read us) the most was the relationship session. Although, it started with the respect to elders, showing love, expressing love to the people you care, it unknowingly took a turn where my peers started sharing the unsaid parts of their lives.

This was followed by tears not only in girls’ eyes, which won’t be a surprise, but also in the “tough” guys eyes. It showed the power of emotions which we people possess. The common cliche that human are no longer humans, proved out to be wrong on that 50-acre campus.

Being a management program it would be injustice on my part if I leave it without telling my learning. They are listed below so as to give me a quick revision, whenever I go through this post-

  1. If you are missing a person and are not contacting him only because he/she doesn’t call you back, shred off the reason and call that person up. Don’t let that poor ego come in between.
  2. Nurture your relationships by forgiving those who ask the apologies and by asking for forgiveness if you commit something wrong.
  3. Say out your feelings to the person now. Don’t wait for the opportune moment. So, if you feel like saying “I Love You” to your brother or parent, say it, howsoever girlish it may sound to you.;-)
  4. Take care of the family problems of your employees and peer groups. Everyone has a tough time to face and always be there as an understanding and caring manager.

So, all in all, it was a cherishable experience for me. Learnt many new rules of maintaining a relation.

And bro, if you are reading this, you now know the reason of that call.

Flying with the birds

I was on the top of the world when my co-passenger asked me a question. What was the reason for developing the aeroplane? He asked.

First of all, let me clear the air. When I said that “I was on the top of the world” don’t think it idiomatically but reckon it practically. Yes, I was flying, boarded in a INDIGO flight.

Now, when the fellow threw that question to me, I was perplexed. I promptly answered him, “oh! the Wright brothers invented the plane.” Next,  I was blank. How in the world will I know that what made them develop this luxurious mode of transport.

He told me very proudly, “It was because they wanted to talk to the birds. Fly with them.” And then he turned away looking at the air hostess who was offering sandwiches to eat.

I closed my eyes with the intention that the fatty will not disturb me again. But, I kept wondering “What if what he is saying is correct?” Did the Wright brothers really did want to talk to the birds?

This induced another motivational based story in my mind. The Symbiosis University also have an interesting story behind its foundation. Its founder was shocked when he saw a girl handing over the medicines to a boy over the window of the hostel. Later, he enquired and came to know that the boy was ill and since girls are not allowed in the hostel she used to hand over the medicines through the back window.

This made him to lay the foundations of Symbiosis University where all can live together and be in symbiosis.

But again, it made me wonder that their motivations behind these revolutions changed the lives of many, but was the real purpose done?

Airplanes avoid the birds and NO, we don’t have co-ed hostels in the latter.. ;-)

Commonwealth: The suicide Committed

Comes the morning, and brings with it: the chirping birds, the first ray of the sun from the broken glass pane of my room’s window and the inexorable long queues in the cafeteria. After the mundane activities, when I come back to my room  I find my newspaper waiting for me. I feel like it’s dying to tell me all the gossips of yesterday or the fore events of the previous gossips.

But for the last week, scams/controversies of the Commonwealth’10 have become my breakfast news. Sometimes, I wonder why did India even bid for this mega event. I have a complain that our elected representatives never asked my viewpoint, which sounds like important in a democratic country. But then, I realized they never did.

Even when going for the bidding in 2003, the ministers had one thing clear in their minds that there will be no profit financially to the country by hosting this event. But it seems now, that they are more interested in their personal profit.

The everyday claims, fingers pointing at the dignitaries, quitting of people, workers conforming the incapability of the project to be on to time, etc all make my head go down in shame and guilt. This has really bring unforgettable shame to our country.

Whether the alleged corruptions are true or not, but the publicity and rage it has gathered is nothing short of bedaubing our mother’s name. The sentient patriots would have waited for the event to become a success and then the inquiry committee could have been in a full swing. Rather, they could have utilized their energy in pointing at the delays of the project and thus  could have helped in serving the country and saving its dignity.

Sorry, Queen Elizabeth..

Save the Lions

The Asiatic lions, one of their kind, was once a wealth, India could flaunt with. They were found in various parts of India, ranging from Haryana in the North to Baroda in South. But, as a matter of utter shame and negligence, they are now only restricted to the Gir forests of Gujarat (And I am talking of their availability in the world..!!).

Are they secured?

Recent estimates of late 2009, have put their living figure, close to 350. To add to the graveness of this negligence except the above mentioned modicum figure, is the space allotted for their habitation. Since, they are carnivorous animals, the ambit of Gir forests isn’t capacious enough to hold them all. Proposals have been made to shift few of them to a forest in Madhya Pradesh, but mere shifting will not solve the problem. But only if they are implemented soon will so something good. Apart from their shifting to new home, proper care, assurance of availability of food, medical check-ups, checking of hunting and keeping an eye that they don’t move in human inhabiting area have to be assured.

What once used to be a part of every zoo, a part of every story and a mammoth representative of bravery is turning into a part of wildlife oriented books and to be the all time favorite of poachers.

Why aren’t we showing our concern for their protection? They have their families too. They too, like us,  want to see their next generations growing cheerfully. But, they have been melancholy thrown to the clemency of Human Beings. But the matter is still not out of control. The government along with NGOs have to put some serious efforts for not only saving this God created creature but also to save the “smiles” of our children, when they will see this robust animal.

The Suicidal Amendment

Seeing our elected representatives fighting, abusing and throwing chairs on their comrades behind the screen of my television makes me feel pity for these high-held positioned people. These are the people who we choose to put our problems in front of the government, and then the expectation of getting it solved becomes natural. But, it seems to me that this mob has already got its own plethora of issues to deal with, especially the pecuniary issues. This comes under the light of today’s “Breaking News’ of all the news channels in which the discipline and way of communication can be seen under the roof of the chamber. And to add more chillies, the caption reading “A scam of Rs. 11,400 crore rupees”, floats at the bottom of my 36”inch Samsung screen.

What once was the topic of discussion with my brother, when I was on a journey sitting inside the Delhi Metro, seems to become the need of the hour. We were discussing about this unacceptable behaviour of our elected faces, which is becoming highly intolerable to both of us, day by day. What we came to conclude was an amendment in the election prerequisite of these ministers asking them to be a graduate at least. This will not only bring a much needed change in their behaviour, but will also cultivate their minds towards developing India.

But, the truth is as clear as the sky today. Bringing this amendment, will be like writing the resignation with own hands. So, this good-will amendment will actually be seen as a “Suicidal Amendment”. This amendment has the power to scare the juggernauts in their dream and will surely be a reason for their insomnia. But, behind this good-will lies the misfortune of our mother India, which is that she has stopped giving births to such audacious iconoclasts.

The Zoological Harbingers

And here goes the latest prediction of Paul, the psychic octopus, correct.

This is unbelievable. Never before in my life of 20 years, have I heard about an octopus prognosticating. And not to forget, with an accuracy of stupendous cent per cent.

I have heard about Parrots, coming out of their cage, picking the card and go back to its home. I have seen women wearing weirdly, predicting the future with the help of some symbolic cards. In a usual routine, we come across many astrologers who are into making their fore-seeings with the aid of planetary motions or the birth dates.

Some stories about other animals have also been deeply rooted in our culture which indirectly falls under the category of conjecturing. The most prominent position is held by the Cat, which if is made of black color and crosses our road, brings bad luck to us. Not far behind is the Crow, which if sits on your roof and keeps on cawing, gives the notice of a guest coming to your house.

But, an octopus, is a new flavor. We welcome this aquatic animal to the land of prognostications and wish him/her (???) a lot of luck and best wishes, as this FIFA has made our Paul, quite a celebrity and would have surely caught the eyes of few rich who would be wishing Paul to make some of the important decisions of their life. Wish you a happy life ahead, Paul..!!

Saving the prints

This is apropos “Migration in progress: from print to web”, an article in The Hindu newspaper dated today. Various facts and figures have been shown, which point that the focus of the advertising companies has now been drifting towards the online method. However, the author here seemed to be loquacious. He has just shown us the path on which we are moving forward.

The writer, of the elite tabloid, has however shadowed the well known truth that still the print media is the lifeline of the poor and the lower middle class people. In India, we have our Right to Information and this is the very means of getting it to the masses.

The inflation has caused dolour to the industry, as the printing cost, paper cost and especially the transportation cost has seen a noticeable augmentation. But we can’t ignore the fact that to run these newspapers we need advertisers in here. So, the importunate point to be put under the light is “What should our beloved print media do in order to keep the business ebullient?”

The very first answer that clicks in the mind will be to slash down the advertising costs in the newspaper as compared to the web media. But will that be fructuous?  Under the inflating circumstances, this step will no doubt pump in more advertisers, but will that turn into profit for the industry? Also, won’t it encourage some of the low-profile advertisers into the field? This will ultimately, let the brand of the newspaper down. Who likes the “Learn English” advertisement, which is there on the sports page?

So, what amendments are needed in the advertising cosmos of the printing media? What I would suggest is to make long term offers with the promoting companies like 3-year contracts. This will be attractive as it will provide a concession as well as bind them in long term advertising. A second path can be to make a dual agreement. This needs some exegesis.

In the current scenario, every leading newspaper has got its website. So what they can offer to the marketer is to place their company’s ads in the same piece of news in the print as well as in the online view. So the marketer will get the dual benefits of being associated to concerned or sensational news. This is what I have coined as the dual agreement.

Print media is the lifeline of India. Its decline will lead to loss of jobs, revenue and more over more dependency on the technology. Still every man likes a morning with a tea in one hand and his eyes on the newspaper. And we love it that way!

Proposed Quota reform

I am a proud “Indian” and I have no doubts about it. I would love to be a part of anything that would contribute a role in its success.

Now when we talk about its success, it comprises of two parts. Firstly, we have to make continuous toils to make our motherland proud of ourselves, in any field like medical, technological, business, sports, democracy, etc.  Secondly, we are required to make continuous reforms and amendments in policies to facilitate the success.

The area under spotlight in this article is the much talked “Quota System of India.” To be very honest, before coming to my college, I hated these quotas in the seats in every sphere of life. I believed that the best and the deserved candidates must be getting these seats. But as I came across various phases in the life of the people living in penury, I really felt from the core of my heart to get the seats reserved. India will progress as a whole and not a particular section should be in the seventh horizon.

And this quota system really helps the indigent mob to grow and refurbish their lives. This member gets an opportunity which is at par with those other coming from other families. This is seriously a laudable job. But, once a member of a family gets the same opportunity as others, the quota has completed its job.

Elucidating it will simply say that when that person is in the same stage, state and ambience as that of other people why his/her generations are to get the benefits of quota. The quota has been used and has put the person in a respectable position and most probably transformed into a decent life.

So, the quotas once used by a family member should end in putting that person out of quota, in the general category. Its repercussions will be-

1)   Getting the cream of the particular throng in its first phase and the getting the lower of the lower families’ children into a good position and giving him a good education. Ultimately touching the whole India.

2)   Reduction in the number of people under the categories. This will put all of India under one category, some 40- to 50 years down the line. And then, in the competitions only the fittest will survive.

We have to place the capable people on the success making chairs of India. But, before that we all have to show some fraternity among ourselves and help our brothers to get a decent life. Then, only we can celebrate India’s success with honour, pride and love. (A champagne will also do..!!)

Morals in an Examination hall…

In our childhood, we all did listen to the “Moral Stories”. These morals were asked to be followed in every phase of life.

So, I am jotting down all the morals which I can recall and relating them to the most common, deeply loathed but unavoidable situation- EXAMINATION HALL..

  1. Greediness is always a losing game. (Be happy in whatever you may get from your friends. If you aim for a high score you may get caught and will result in nothing)
  2. Unity is strength.(Try and give the exam alone.. You will automatically remember this one.)
  3. It is possible for even a Mouse to confer benefits on a Lion.(Simple, cheat on an intelligent guy/gal. You both can get equal marks.)
  4. Think twice before change a decision.(Think twice that the person on whom you are cheating has got the right answer or not..)
  5. Necessity is the mother of invention.(Check out the size of aid-slips. They are getting reduced in size as per the necessity)
  6. Honesty is the best policy.(Be honest to yourself. You know nothing)
  7. A friend in need is a friend indeed. (Always count on your friends to help you when you need them the most. In an exam hall..!)

And if your innovation and life-experience permits you, you can check out all the morals and relate them with this situation.

If you have any trouble relating to the same, just drop a comment. I’ll be happy to help you out.

Btw, ALL THE BEST for your exams..

This is not acceptable..

My morning began with my friends’ voices serving the purpose of my alarm clock. Full shouts of “Jai Hind” could be listened throughout the corridor. Next, wishes came in the form of SMSes which were full of patriotism and depicts of the Indian flag were also sent to me.

But one SMS caught my attention. I really was devastated by reading that SMS and impromptu replied to my friend not to float this message as a wish for today.

Meaning of PAKISTAN-

P – Pyaar (love)

A – Aman (brotherhood)

K – Khushaali (happiness)

I – Insaaf (justice)

S – Shanti (peace)

T – Tarakki (progress)

A – Ahinsa (non- violence)

N – Not available here!

Forward to all Indians. Jai Hind

Is this what is our republic day about? Openly, criticizing our neighbor. No, this isn’t acceptable. Our government has been trying to maintain good fraternity with Pakistan and we should too. If such messages are floating in the air of this country even on the such an important day, I am sorry to say that it would not be possible for the Indian government to reach the goal in yet another 50 years.
